[XF] Done One Mulder and Scully

Well folks, the time has come for me to keep prying eyes out of my LJ by going mostly FO.
This shouldn't be a major problem, as I'm probably already friends with most of the people who read this.
I like adding new friends, though, so feel free to comment on this post if you wanna join in on the fun!

This is the first of what I hope to be an ongoing series of healthy-ish food that can be cooked up easily and quickly for one person (or two people). I do a lot of cooking, so I figure that I might as well share some of my usual recipes and some tips for people who maybe aren't so comfortable in the kitchen.

Writer's Block: Space Wars

Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Serenity, Alien, 2001—there is a long list of movies and TV shows that take place in space. Which is your favorite?

Prior to last year, I wouldn't have had an answer to this question. I had a pretty negative opinion of shows set in space. Then I saw Battlestar Galactica, and my opinion changed.

It's very different from what most people think a space show should be. In fact, it's pretty easy to forget that it takes place in space once you start watching. The focus is definitely more sociopolitical and philosophical than on the big space battles and such (though those are pretty awesome, too). I love that its characters are so human, its women are so kickass, its guys are so hot (and also kickass, but also emo sometimes), and its plot is so awe-inspiring.

Plus, it's like the politics of The West Wing + the relationship drama of Grey's Anatomy + the combat mentality of Band of Brothers + (space - aliens). What's not to love?

And I saw the new Star Trek movie. It was good. Would have preferred it without the aliens, though.

Happy birthday, A. A. Milne! Not coincidentally, it's also Winnie the Pooh Day. Which resident of Pooh Corner do you identify with the most?

Absolutely Eeyore. Is it weird that it's super easy for me to answer that question?

My mom tends to call me Eeyore if I launch into a long negative story or complaint about my life. I actually keep a stuffed Eeyore because it reminds me of her, and it also reminds me to perk up a bit. It's not as if I've just lost my tail or knocked over my house of twigs, after all.

It's 2009! How did that happen? I've meant to post a lot more over the past month or so (because, really, I have some interesting things to discuss), and I just haven't got around to it due to finals and work and Xmas and a lack of wireless internet. Eeek!

So, for now I bring a post that I was planning to make the week before Xmas, when the ice storm actually happened. I'll be back later with the important non-picture stuff.

80 - Writer's Block: The X-Files Birthday

[XF] Questions

Today in 1993, The X-Files first premiered. What's your favorite episode? Have you ever experienced paranormal activity yourself?

Getting me to name a single favorite episode is impossible. I generally tell people that I have three favorites, one for each major type of episode. "Pusher," about a man who can convince people to do whatever he wants, is my favorite Monster of the Week episode. "Bad Blood" is my favorite humorous episode (I can't even quickly sum this one up...it's about vampires, but no one likes it because of the main plot. You just have to see it.). "Anasazi/The Blessing Way/Paper Clip" are my favorite mytharc episodes (and no, they can't be separated).

It's so crazy for me, a X-Phile of 21 years old, to think that my favorite show premiered 15 years ago today! I was too young to watch the show when it first came out, but I started watching during the 8th season and was almost instantly hooked. I love that XF is still getting new fans in 2008, mostly because the larger themes of the show are still relevant. There will always be unknown things lurking in the darkness, the government is always going to be sketchy, the concept of two people against the world will always be intruiging (and even romantic).

Yep. I love this show. Happy anniversary to The X-Files and X-Philes everywhere!

PS - Hola, everyone. I am working on a real post since I haven't made one in so long. Woot.

42notes: Sharing my Academic Experience
I'm going to be making the notes from several of my current classes available to anyone who is interested. I've decided to post notes from two criminal justice courses and one psychology course on Google Documents throughout the semester.

Criminal Procedure
"This course provides an in-depth, sophisticated coverage of criminal procedures surrounding investigations, stops, searches and seizure, arrests, interrogations, and procedural remedies.
"Outcome:  Students will be able to identify and articulate the origin, interpretation and application of legal procedures as they relate to matters involving the police, and how these relate to the overall operation and effectiveness of the criminal justice system
"

Criminal Motivation
"This course examines current techniques used to develop typologies (profiles) used in the investigation of crimes and to better understand reasons behind crime and the behavior of criminals.
"Outcome:  Students will be able to effectively describe the methods, uses and limitations of criminal profiling from the standpoint of criminal investigation and what role this plays in the effectiveness of the criminal justice system.
"

Psychology of Addiction
"Survey of historical, demographical, and statistical aspects of substance abuse. Abuse of alcohol and drugs, as well as eating disorders, may be considered. A variety of theoretical models and interventions are discussed.
"Outcomes: Students will demonstrate understanding of the psychopharmacological effects of various substances, major research findings in the area of substance abuse, and prevention and intervention techniques.
"

Lab in Experimental Psychology: Cognition
"Laboratory demonstrations, experiments, and microcomputer applications in the area of human cognition. Topics vary, but include learning, memory, thinking and language processing.
"Outcomes: Students gain skills and experience in experimental design, measurement, statistical analyses, and report writing as they relate to research on human cognition.
"

Bonus notes may be included from Digital Photography. I'm assuming that no one wants to know about my American History to 1865 course ;)

Anyone who is interested can leave me a comment with his/her e-mail address, which will allow me to give individuals access to the notes from one, two, or all of the classes through my account on Google Documents. Each class meets once a week, the notes will be posted shortly after the class (except for the first two weeks of the semester...I still don't have my laptop and will have to type out my notes after handwriting them in class). I try to take fairly detailed notes, but the quality is not guaranteed and is at the mercy of how quickly my professors attempt to race through the material.

Feel free to spread this to anyone who is interested in Psychology or Criminal Justice.
[XF] Parabiosis 2

I feel like I should apologize to the non-Phile segment of my Friends List. It's just...I've missed this show so much over the past 6 years, and we were never certain that this movie would happen. So The X-Files 2 and everything that has come along with it is pretty much like opening several years' worth of Christmas presents at once. I promise that I'll be back to "normal" soon-ish. Until then...sorry about any incoherent rambling that might leak through my LJcuts.

This is a collection of all of my current Cubs icons. I had to delete a bunch that featured players that are no longer playing for the Cubs (sniff).

Some randomish Cubs icons. If you have love for Mark DeRosa, Derrek Lee, Ted Lilly, and Ryan Theriot; then I have some goods for you :D

I've been using some of these, I wasn't sure if I liked them at first or not. But now I've pretty much decided that they're cool. So here they are...

No hotlinking...definitely credit...comments are appreciated!
